So Crazy It Just Might Work
I read Robert X. Cringely's column at PBS, not so much for a sense of what's coming in the technology and media business -- he seems a pretty poor predictor of that -- but for the entertainment value in the sheer outlandishness of some of the things he predicts. This week, he puts forth a cunning plan -- a plan so cunning, you could brush your teeth with it -- to basically destroy the music industry as we know it. I have no earthly idea whether it would work or not. I want it to work; the sooner the current media oligarchy is demolished -- and in my opinion it's only a matter and when and how it will happen, not whether it will happen -- the sooner we can start inventiing Music Industry 2.0. Cringe claims to have run this past several lawyers, presumably ones that know a thng or two about IP law, and none have yet found a flaw. Personally, I'd very much like to know what Larry Lessig thinks of it. Posted by Kevin Shaum at July 25, 2003 11:47 AMComments
